The first phase of the national EuroQCI initiative is coming to an end. The QCI-CAT project – Austria's contribution to the EuroQCI initiative – hosted an interactive exchange on 26 February 2026 to help shape the future development of quantum-secure communication.

At the stakeholder event, the consortium consisting of AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, X-Net Services, CANCOM Austria, dacoso, fragmentiX Storage Solutions, Quantum Technology Laboratories, Med Uni Graz, SBA Research, Graz University of Technology and University of Innsbruck, looked back on three years of intensive research and development, presented the results and gave an outlook on the next steps towards quantum-secure communication in Austria and Europe.

Use Case "Secret Sharing between authorities in a quantum-secure network"

The live demonstration prepared by X-Net in collaboration with zynd GmH was one of the highlights of the day. It shows that quantum-secure communication is no longer just a vision but already a reality with high potential. Whether data exchange, chat or video conferencing, in a quantum-secure network, data can be encrypted and transmitted securely in a familiar environment and with familiar usability, as visitors were able to see for themselves on site.
